Obituary of Alwyn Goldstein

ALWYN OSCAR GOLDSTEIN Mr. Goldstein, 94, of Charlotte, NC formerly of Georgetown, SC, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. He was born on June 4, 1915 in Charleston, SC son of the late Max and Rosie Goldman Goldstein. Mr. Goldstein was the owner of Alwyns Department Store in Georgetown, SC from 1938 to 1989. Alwyn and his wife, Frances moved to Charlotte, NC in 2004 where he became a well loved and vibrant resident of Sunrise on Providence Road. Mr. Goldstein was an avid supporter of The Charlotte Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In addition to his parents, Alwyn was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Engel Goldstein. Alwyn is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Frances Ward Goldstein; daughter Roz G. Greenspon and her husband Marty Birnbaum, of Charlotte, NC; Son, Dr. Steven Goldstein and his wife Hallie of West Chester, PA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Stan Greenspon, Dorothy Phipps, and Sam Ward. Service and Interment were held on Friday, March 19, 2010 in Georgetown, SC. Shiva will be observed Sunday and Monday evenings, March 21 and 22, 2010.
