Obituary of Earl Weathersby

Earl Lee Weathersby Mr. Weathersby passed away Friday October 1, 2010. Earl was born February 22, 1917, in Spring Hope, NC, son of the late Spencer and Claire Wheless Weathersby. He was a graduate of Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson, NC. Earl started his working career as a Deputy Sheriff in Wilson, NC and joined the US Army in 1942. Following basic training at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville NC, Earl served in the medical field in various stations and rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant. He received his honorable discharge in 1946. During his military service he met Wilma Horton in Texas. They were married and had a son, Chester, in 1955. Chester was killed in 1967 when he was struck by a car on the way to school in Charlotte, NC. After military service Earl served on the Wilson County ABC Board, as a Probation Officer in Wilmington and Raleigh, worked for the Office of Price Stabilization, the N.C. Board of Alcohol Control, and as a sales representative for David T. Sparrow Inc., where he retired in 1982. His wife, Wilma died in early 1989 and he married Nell Porter in December of 1989. Nell and his army buddy, John Porter, were best friends until John?s death in 1980. Nell died in 2001 and Earl moved to Little River, S.C. in 2008. Earl was a charter member of SouthPark Christian Church and Deacon Emeritus. His sister, Elsie Aycock and half sister Billie Bland predeceased him and also his nieces, Ellen Burgess and Ann Aycock. He is survived by his half brother Robert Bland, sister in law, Ruth Rajhan of Katie Texas, nephew Spencer Aycock of Raleigh, nieces Peggy Medlin of Garner and Claire Gentry of Oak Ridge, N.C., Janna Payne of Katie Texas, Pat Scardino of Houston Texas, and Stepson Mike Motter of Little River, S.C. Funeral service for Mr. Weathersby will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 6, 2010, in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins &Whittington Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to SouthPark Christian Church, 6650 Park South Dr., Charlotte, N.C. 28210.
