Obituary of Derryl Willis

Derryl O?Driscoll Willis Mr. Willis, 87, of Charlotte died Monday, June 20, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Derryl was born July 22, 1923, in Cottageville, SC, son of the late Wilbur R. and Bertha Addison Willis and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in engineering. Mr. Willis was a US Navy veteran of WW II and a Lieutenant in the US Navy Reserve. He was a civil engineer with Southern Railway and Ralph Whitehead and Associates until his retirement. Derryl enjoyed wood working and trains. Mr. Willis was a member of Dilworth United Methodist Church and the Bowles Sunday school class. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ann Webb Willis; son, Derryl ?Rusty? Willis and his wife, Marion of Ft. Collins, CO; daughters, Alison Walls of Greensboro, NC and Robin Willis of Charlotte, NC; brother, G.A. Willis of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Jana and Kaity Willis of Ft. Collins, CO and Dwayne Walls of Greensboro, NC and Jessica Walls of Myrtle Beach, SC. A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 24, 2011 at Dilworth United Methodist Church with the Reverend Ben Devoid officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Dilworth United Methodist Church, 605 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 or the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203.
