When I met Derryl about 30 years ago I was fresh out of college. He was a fine gentlemen and a top notch engineer who was willing to show a "kid" some of the ropes. Derryl was a great guy.

I've known Mr. Willis for over 40 years since going to high school with his daughter, Robin, who is my best friend. He had a great, dry sense of humor. I remember some years ago my cat had been stuck in a tree for 3 days and asking him what I should do (hoping he would come over with his ladder). He said "have you ever seen a dead cat in a tree?" then smiled and walked away. I think of that moment regularly and smile. He was right, of course. The kitty came down eventually on her own. I loved him and will miss dearly. My thoughts & prayers are with Momma Willis and her family.

A finer man I never met. And the BEST railway engineer in our industry. Ralph Whitehead Associates was built on the expertise and professionalism of men like Derryl Willis. I am honored that I got to learn under him.

My prayers to the Derryl Willis family. I worked with Derryl for 10 years in the 1970's and always have had fond memories of that time. He always took time to listen and help a young employee.

Derryl was an early mentor of mine when I started working for RWA in the summer of 1982. He was awesome at explaining things, always funny and he made work something to look forward to every day. I have tried to model my work environment after his. My sympathies to Derryl's family and friends.

As a young engineer in the early 1980s I had the honor to work with Mr. Willis at Ralph Whitehead and Associates. He was a real gentleman who was always willing to help and take an interest in the work that was assigned to me. A great example to the younger empoloyees.
