Today I looked up fellow swimmers from UNC and l learned that Mitch Kolsaire and Glenn had left us. To me, Glenn was more than a fellow swimmer—I had an enormous crush on him my Freshman year. He taught me how to do a flip turn. He might like that at age 67 I’m still swimming and even competing with a senior DC swim team called the Water Wizards. Glen was a unique guy—Rest in peace,
Sally

I'm so sorry to hear of Glenn's passing. We were swim team mates in NJ for Ridgewood Y and at UNC, and new Glenn's brother Mark and sister Debbie as well.I remember Glenn as funny, and intense competitor, and a hero:In 1966 at "Y" Nationals, Little Rock Arkansas: Driving to dinner, Glenn yells "Stop the car!" He leaps out of the moving car, confronts a man walking on the street, and we see the man hand over a jacket. Glenn spotted one of our stolen Ridgewood Y jackets, and retrieved it for our diver. He was a hero that day.So sorry to find out he passed recently as I was reaching out to invite him to an event at UNC.Sincere Sympathies:Mitch Kolesaire

I have known Glenn since high school when I dated him. We've kept in touch on and off through the years and I cannot believe that he's gone. What a great guy. I know he cared deeply about his family, mourned his brother, loved being active and struggled with the physical ailments he experienced later in his life. He was caring, and bright and had a wonderful laugh. I will miss his presence on earth.

We played many rounds of golf together and for sure shot a few birds together thru the years !! But most importantly he was a second Father to my two Loves of my Life in Hilton and Stevie along with his second wife Julie who loved him dearly and was the same to Hilton and Stevie as he was !! God Bless glenn Garella in Heaven and Kiel and Al never ever forgot what he taught you guy's in Life and always take his memories in wherever this wild ride of Life all takes you and all of us !! Glenn Garella was a very good guy and we all will miss him a lot in the years ahead of us !! What you saw with Glenn was what you got from him !! Its been a long time since I worked with Glen at EF Hutton in downtown Charlotte. I was early in y career and he was a great mentor and friend. We enjoyed that time and I have always remembered him fondly. It is sad to see his life so short at 60 years. A lifespan is unpredictible and we can only make the best of the gift of each day we are give. My thoughts and sympathy are with his family.

To Kiel,Alex and Glenn's familyAndy and I have great memories of Glenn when we were in a dinner club together. We shared many good laughs and meals together. It was because of Glenn's involvment with the US National Whitewater Center that I worked there for two years. I lost my father when I was 31 so I know how hard this will be for you.I hope you find some comfort in the memories you have. We will be there tomorrow to celebrate Glenn's life.
