Obituary of Woody Kendall

Woodrow Wilson Kendall ?Woody? Mr. Kendall, 99, of Charlotte, NC died Monday, October 3, 2011 at CMC Pineville. He was born July 4, 1912 in Norwood, NC, son of the late William Clement Kendall and Mary Emma Rhyne Kendall and grandson of Gaston County merchant ?pioneer Moses Hoffman Rhyne. Woody enjoyed a long 58 year career as a wholesale lumber broker retiring at the age of 89. He was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church and later at St. Luke?s Lutheran Church. He was also active in the Charlotte Central Lions Club for over 50 years. He was a resident at Stewart Health Center at The Cypress. Mr. Kendall is survived by a son Donald Wilson Kendall and his wife, Ginny of Charlotte, daughter, Leta Kendall Hawn and her husband, Harold Swartz of Mint Hill, NC; step-daughter, Janet Pyner McLean and her husband, Mac of Charlotte; grandchildren, Mark Hawn and his wife, Sally, Brian Hawn and his wife, Heather, Laura Kendall Zacharczyp and her husband, John, and Jonathan Kendall and his wife, Tina; step-grandchildren, Louise McLean Luther, Leslie Pyner Galper, Joe, Jim and Mark Pyner; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sam Hawn, Joshua and Catherine Kendall and Patrick Zacharczyp; step-great-grandchildren, Trey Luther, Kelly Czarnecki and Michelle Pyner and a number of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. A service of celebration will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 7, 2011 at St. Luke?s Lutheran Church 3200 Park Road, with the Reverend Sara Ilderton officiating. Entombment will be at 11:00 AM Friday in the mausoleum of Sharon Memorial Park, 5400 Monroe Road. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Luke?s Lutheran Church, PO Box 11063, Charlotte, NC 28220-1063.
