Obituary of Nancy Parlier

Nancy went to be with our Lord the morning of December 22, 2012 after suffering a fall at the hospital. Born January 18, 1927 in Lenoir, NC, Nancy was the daughter of Randolph Carter and Margaret Hartley Carter and had one brother and two sisters. Nancy attended Flora MacDonald Junior College before she was married to William Carson Parlier on July 16, 1946. They have resided in Charlotte, NC their entire married lives. While raising their children, Nancy industriously continued her college education and graduated from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC, then later received a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from UNC-Charlotte. She retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system after having taught first grade her entire career, primarily at Starmount Elementary School. Nancy moved to Charlotte in 1946 and joined Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church. Shortly thereafter, she transferred her membership to Dilworth United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the Bowles Sunday School Class. Her church-wide activities included teaching elementary Sunday School, oversight of the nursery, Cub Scout den mother, coordinator of Bowles Class? social events, and coordinator of the bereavement committee. Nancy was also very active in civic affairs, having been a 50 year member and Past Regent of the Piedmont Patriots chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Pilot Club, Salvation Army Women?s Auxiliary, where she served on the ARC committee, Kappa chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Charlotte Herb Guild. She was also Past President of the Association of Childhood Education. Nancy was pre-deceased by her parents and her brother, Hill Carter. Nancy is survived by William, her loving husband of 66 years, sons Harry Parlier (Kay) of Charlotte, NC and Bill Parlier (Theresa) of Ft. Myers, FL, daughter Debra Parlier Hill (Doug) of Sunset Beach, NC, and stepson Robert Parlier (Sandra) of Hickory, NC. She also leaves behind granddaughters, Elizabeth Elhassani, Jenny Parlier, Janice Fiola, Sarah Hill, Missy Trent; grandsons, Will Parlier, Addison Hill, Jeff Parlier, Sean Parlier and several great-grandchildren. Nancy is also survived by her sisters Peggy Broyhill of Lenoir, NC and Martha Kirby of Durham, NC; brother-in-law, Ray Kirby of Durham, NC; sister-in-law, Edith Marie Carter of Ferguson, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Nancy?s life will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Dilworth United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
