Obituary of Lewis David Berryhill, Jr.

Lewis David Berryhill, Jr., 86 years old, of Charlotte, NC passed away on July 15, 2021.  Born in Greer, SC on April 21, 1935, to the late Lewis D. and Mae Lillie Berryhill.  Dave graduated from Central High School in 1953 and went on to graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BS degree in Business Administration in 1958.  Later he graduated from Realtor’s Institute, Chapel Hill in 1967. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling the world with family and friends, family time at Lake Norman and over many years, teaching the church youth to waterski.  Dave loved people. What made him happy was helping others and providing them a place to live.

Dave was the President of the Charlotte Board of Realtors in 1971, Realtor of the Year in Charlotte in 1972, President of the North Carolina Association of Realtors in 1977, Director of the National Association of Realtors 1976-1983, Realtor of the Year NC Association of Realtors in 1982 and a lifetime Director of the North Carolina Association of Realtors, Board of Directors of Hornets Nest Girl Scout Council and Board of Directors of Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation. He was a 50 year member of Phalanx Lodge 31 and a 40 year Realtor Emeritus.

Dave was highly active in his church, Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, where he was Ruling Elder, former Chairman of the Board of Deacons and former Church School Superintendent, Trustee of Mecklenburg Presbytery from 1976-1978 and 1983- 1986 and Trustee of Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church from 1978-1984.

Dave also was the President of Charlotte Sertoma Club in 1972, President of Winterfield Booster Club from 1975-1976 and Charlotte City Council, where he served two terms in 1979-1981, 1981-1983.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Davis Berryhill of 64 years; his loving daughters, Beth Cameron and Leigh Wall and her husband Keith; his beloved four grandchildren, Rachel Rydberg and her husband Michael, Anna O’Bannon and her husband Brian, Ashley Warren and her fiancé Zlatin Gamishev and Thomas Warren and his cherished great grandson, John David Rydberg. Dave also leaves behind a large extended family including many loved nieces and nephews and their families. 

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, on Friday August 6, 2021 at 2pm.
