Obituary of Sara Elizabeth Allgood

Sara Elizabeth Allgood, M.D. Dr. Allgood, of Concord, NC died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at her home. She was born in Spartanburg County, SC to the late Dr. James Edward Allgood and Sara Blackman Allgood. She was the fifth generation doctor in her family. Sara graduated valedictorian of her class at Chapman High School in Inman, SC where she was recognized as a Presidential Scholar and invited to the White House to meet President Johnson in 1966. Her education continued at Emory University in Atlanta, GA and later at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree. She received her MD at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and completed her residency in family medicine at the Medical University of Georgia in Augusta, GA. Following school, she worked for Deaconess Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Louis, MO. In Charlotte, she was a Medical Director in Urgent Care Network for Carolina's Healthcare System. She also spent clinical hours as a practicing physician in Urgent Care. Sara enjoyed painting, gardening, nature, history, scuba diving, traveling, personal fitness, music, and medical ethics. She also enjoyed being adventurous, being very open-cultured and an appetite for exotic foods. Sara made sure that everyone around her enjoyed life as much as she did. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Dr. Allgood is survived by her two sons, Robert Keasler Gruendel and James O'Hara Gruendel, both of Charlotte; siblings, Virginia Allgood Farr, Loucinda Ruth Allgood and Sam Allgood, all of Inman, SC. A service to celebrate Sara's life will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203.
