Obituary of Perry Maheras

Mr. Perry Maheras, 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 in Charlotte, NC. Perry was born on May 10, 1935 in Karyae, Greece. He was the son of the late John Sotiros Maheras and Vasiliki Kakaris Maheras. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sotirios, Terry, and Andrew Maheras. Mr. Maheras was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a long time member of the Adelphotis Arahoviton Karyae and served on the Board of Directors for many years. He moved to the United States and resided in Charlotte since 1956. In 1973, he returned to Greece and married Paula Bougadis. Together, they returned to Charlotte where Perry co-owned a restaurant and later was the owner of Leo's Deli. He enjoyed life and was always there for his family and friends. Mr. Maheras is survived by his wife of 35 years, Paula Bougadis Maheras, his daughter, Bessie Palios and her husband, Michael, his two sons, John Maheras and his wife, Katie and Dimitri Maheras. He is also survived by his grandchildren John and Maria Palios, and was expecting his third grandchild in May; his brother, Pete Mahairas and his wife Dina, sister-in-Iaws, Glykeria of Karyae, Greece, Matoulas and Bessie, both of Charlotte. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, March 20, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The Trisagion will be Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at the Cathedral. Pallbearers for the service will be John P. Mahairas, John T. Maheras, John Skiouris, George Karres, Van Diatzikis, Gus Euripides, Billy Sciouris, and Greg Vastis. Honorary Pallbearers: John Caltis, Angelo Hondros, Nick Kaperonis, George Koukouliotis, Perry Vastis and Sam Vastis. Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Foundation, 600 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203.
