Obituary of Roberta McKenzie

Roberta Pearce McKenzie ?Mac? Mrs. McKenzie, 83, of Charlotte passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 6, 2009. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, April 10, 2009 at 11:00 am at Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte where she was a cherished member of the congregation. The Reverend Dr. John B. Earl will preside. The family will greet friends in the MacLean Fellowship Hall following the service. Born in Franklin County, NC, October 4, 1925, Roberta was the first born daughter of the late Dollie and Kate Mae Pearce. She was a faithful and loving wife, devoted mother and beloved grandmother. Her life revolved around her faith and family as she was almost a second mother to her grandchildren. A legacy of love and countless happy moments together was her gift to her family. Roberta was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Howard M. McKenzie and by her brother, Kimble. Survivors include her three sons and their wives; Mike and wife Marty, Tony and wife Donna, Greg and wife Cindy, five adoring grandchildren; Megan and husband Matt, Ian, Zack, Keely, and Jack, and one great-grandson, Jackson. Roberta is also survived by two brothers and their wives; Phillip and wife Jane, Maynard and wife Esther, two sisters Eleanor, Faye and husband Bill, and sister-in-law, June. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Avondale Presbyterian Church general operating fund, 2821 Park Road Charlotte, NC 28209.
