Obituary of Regina Harwell

Regina Jarboe Harwell ?Mammaw? Mrs. Regina Harwell, 99, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Fort Mill, S.C., died peacefully on April 23, 2009, two days before her 100th birthday, at her daughter?s home surrounded by her loving family. Regina was born in Leonardtown, Maryland, on April 25, 1909, a daughter of the late Walter Rosevelt Jarboe and Elizabeth Regina Wise Jarboe. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Easly Harwell; her brother, Walter Rosevelt Jarboe, Jr. and her sister, Gwendolyn Elga Jarboe McFadden. Regina worked in Washington D.C. for the American Red Cross before moving to Charlotte in 1955. The center of her life was her family and she was passionate about her needlework, which she enjoyed sharing with others. Regina was a devout Christian and lived with strength and determination that will forever inspire those who knew her. Her unwavering love and generosity will always be remembered. Regina is survived by a daughter, Carole H. McGirt and her husband, Joseph of Charlotte; granddaughter, Erin E. McGirt of Charlotte; grandson and his wife, Drs. Matthew and Laura McGirt of Baltimore, M.D.; two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Joseph McGirt; and one niece and four nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009, in the Parish Hall of St. Peter?s Episcopal Church, Charlotte, with the Reverend David Pittman officiating. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service and interment will follow immediately in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
