Obituary of Dorothy Sharp

Dorothy J. "Dot" Haskell Sharp Mrs. Sharp, 80, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital with her loving family by her side. Dot was born January 26, 1929 in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, a daughter of the late Branch Franklin Delaney and Olga Mae Ragle Delaney. She was raised in the military until her father retired in 1945. The family then moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she excelled early on in school being a member of the National Honor Society while in junior high and high school. Dot enjoyed acting in Community Theater and was a member of The Lake Chickamauga Water Ski Team participating in many water shows during her teenage years. She was also an excellent ballet and tap dancer. Perhaps Dot?s best talent did not appear until later in her life when she exhibited a flair for art and was active in the Abington, Virginia Art Association where she won several awards for her work. She was an avid reader of history and had a great appreciation of classical music and literature. She had lived in the greater Charlotte region since 1973. Survivors include her sons, Mark Laurence Haskell and companion Katherine Childers of Mint Hill, Charles Kevin Haskell and his wife, Elaine, of Charlotte and Roger Del Parks and his wife, Jackie, of Matthews; one sister, Barbara Delaney Hofer of Savannah, Georgia; three grandchildren, John Haskell, Stephen Haskell and Michael Parks. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday in the chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte. Family will receive one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
