Obituary of John McMakin

John Charles McMakin Mr. McMakin, 53, of Charlotte died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. A Charlotte native, Mr. McMakin was born April 17, 1956, son of the late William S. and Veronica Monahan McMakin. John was a graduate of Myers Park High School and a US Navy veteran. Mr. McMakin was also a member of the VFW. He was employed with H & S Lumber as the warehouse manager for many years and loved to play Dungeons and Dragons and World of Warcraft. In addition to his parents Mr. McMakin was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Patrick McMakin and brother-in-law, Fred W. Donaldson. Survivors include his sister, Catherine M. Donaldson of Rock Hill, SC; brothers, William M. McMakin, Sr. and his wife, Katya of North Hollywood, CA and Stephen A. McMakin and his wife, Mardianne of Cornelius, NC; sister, Mary M. Langley and her husband, Max of Rock Hill, SC. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, beloved cousins and a host of very dear friends. John touched many lives and in return his life was changed. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A service to celebrate John?s life will be held in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends Friday evening, June 12, at Hankins & Whittington from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Philip Neri, 292 Munn Rd., E, Fort Mill, SC 29715
