Obituary of Thelma Elkin

Thelma Ferguson Elkin Mrs. Elkin, 100, widow of Alvin Van Meter Elkin, passed away peacefully at Levine-Dickson Hospice, Huntersville, NC on Thursday, July 2, 2009 with family by her side. She was born March 12, 1909 in Carlisle, Kentucky, a daughter of the late George Washington Ferguson and Pearl Welch Ferguson. Mrs. Elkin attended the University of Kentucky where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over 60 years and was a member of the UMW (United Methodist Women). She is survived by one daughter, Judith Elkin Butler of Martinez, California; one son, Alvin Ferguson Elkin and his wife Peggy of Charlotte; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00PM Saturday evening at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday in Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC. A Memorial Service to celebrate Mrs. Elkin?s life will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2830 Dorchester Place, Charlotte, NC. There will be a reception following the service in the fellowship hall at the church.
