Obituary of Dorothy McCulloch

Dorothy Upton McCulloch Mrs. McCulloch of Charlotte, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Carriage Club of Charlotte. She was born in Ware Shoals, SC, on March 28, 1921, daughter of the late William Fulton Upton and the late Mary Garrison Upton. Dorothy grew up in Charlotte, NC and attended Charlotte Technical High School where she graduated as valedictorian. After high school, she worked for the U.S. Army Quartermaster during World War II. She married William Alfred McCulloch in 1946 and was a mother and full time homemaker. She later obtained her real estate broker's license and worked successfully for many years with Mary Ryder Realty in Charlotte. Her greatest love however, was caring for her husband and family and she was highly regarded for her culinary skills. To all who knew her, she lived a life of grace and kindness reflecting the grace she experienced through her Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ. She was a long-time member of Garr Memorial Church of Charlotte, where she taught a junior-high, girls Sunday school class for many years. She later attended Forest Hill Church and Providence Community Church. She is survived by Alfred, her devoted husband of sixty-three years; son, Al McCulloch and his wife Kathy of Jacksonville, FL; son, Richard McCulloch and his wife Joan of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Lynne Booth and her husband Chip of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter Adrienne Bartle and her husband Max of Panama City, FL; granddaughter, Laura Romans and her husband Craig of Tampa, FL; grandson, Ryan McCulloch and his wife Danielle of Cary, NC; granddaughter, Tyler Carpenter and her husband Matt of Charlotte, NC; grandson Craig Freel of New York, NY and five great grandchildren. A service to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Hankins and Whittington Dilworth Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. The family would like to especially thank the caregivers of Clare Bridge Place at Carriage Club of Charlotte for their kindness and attentive care, as well as Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Camp Lurecrest Ministries, Inc., 10800 Sikes Place, Suite 300, Charlotte, NC 28277.
