Obituary of Ann Wilson

Ann Harrington Wilson Ann Harrington Wilson died peaceful in her home July 24, 2009. Born December 31, 1918 in Milford, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John J. Harrington and Mary Ranahan Harrington. Married for 62 years to her beloved husband, the late Robert Whitelaw Wilson, she is survived by her three children: Phillip Wilson and wife Libby of Chapel Hill, Reid Wilson and wife Bentha of Chapel Hill, and Karen-Ann Christenbery and husband Bob of Charlotte, and six grandchildren: Michael and Matt Wilson, Patrick and Joanna Wilson, and Charlie and Bob Christenbery. Mrs. Wilson graduated in 1938 from Catherine Gibbs College. During World War II, she worked for Stone and Webster Engineering of Boston, Massachusetts, on the X-Project, part of the secretive development of the H-bomb. While raising her three children she worked several years as a Charlotte real estate broker. She was a devout Catholic and was one of the founding members of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Junior League of Charlotte. Mrs. Wilson was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved people and was known for her affirming complements to everyone she met. Even after six decades in North Carolina, she still maintained remnants of her Bostonian accent. Her feisty Irish spirit and her quick and witty humor delighted us all. A one-line quip recently caused 11 family members to suddenly burst with laughter. Our family meant everything to her, and we will miss her dearly. She and her husband enjoyed spending their weekends at their Ashe County farm and 48 ocean-going cruises together during their marriage. We are so happy knowing she is dancing with her darling Robert in heaven today. The family appreciates Mrs. Wilson?s caregivers and the staff of Presbyterian Hospice for the loving, compassionate care they provided during the final months of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ashe County Rescue, 300 Mount Jefferson Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694 A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Gabriel?s Catholic Church Tuesday, July 28 at 1:00 PM. A reception at the church will follow the service, and interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park.
