Obituary of Jean Spratt

Jean Ray Spratt Mrs. Spratt, 88, of Charlotte NC passed away August 5, 2009 at Wilora Lake Healthcare Center. She was the daughter of the late George I. and Etta Jones Ray. Mrs. Spratt grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Central High School in 1938. She was married to the late John E. Spratt, Sr. for over 50 years and they raised their family in Charlotte. After raising her children, she continued her education and graduated from Central Piedmont Community College. She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse by Wesley Nursing Center in Charlotte for 17 years until her retirement. Mrs. Spratt was very much loved and cherished by her entire family. She had a unique sense of humor and in her leisure time she enjoyed painting and was an avid reader. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Spratt was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Ambrose; brother, George Ray, Jr. and granddaughter, Amy Jo Grier. She is survived by daughter Linda Barefoot and husband Crawford of Matthews, NC; son, John Spratt, Jr. and wife Barbara of Charlotte, NC; son, Ray Spratt of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Christy O'Daniel and husband George of Jacksonville, NC; former daughter-in-law, Sandy Spratt of Mint Hill, NC, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. There will be an informal gathering of family and friends Thursday evening August 6, 2009, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service Graveside service for Mrs. Spratt will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave on Friday August 7, 2009 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials to honor the life of Jean Spratt be made to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 6401 Hickory Grove Rd, Charlotte, NC 28215.
