Mark was a great guy. I knew him back in high school. Mark was definitely one of a kind, and definitely "stood up for those without a champion," just like you said. I last ran into him a couple years ago in Charlotte, and he was as friendly as ever, even though I hadn't seen him in years. I didn't know him very well, but I'll miss knowing that he's making peoples' lives better.

I can't believe he is gone, I've never met a better friend than Mark. I don't understand why bad things always happen to good people.

I am so very saddened by Mark's death. I had recently reconnected with him at the Radio Shack in Stonecrest. He greeted me by name with a big smile and hug! He recounted stories of PDS and his life since leaving PDS. He filled me in on the family, and he seemed so happy to be headed back to Belmont Abbey, and having a renewed direction to his life. He gave me special help in solving some electronic problems, and made ME feel like I was an important person to him, and not just another person. He was a very special young man, thoughtful, loving, and caring. He will be missed.I send my love and condolences to the Howard family.

I am truly sorry for your loss. Although I never met your son, it is clear from his brief life history that he made his mother extremely proud. May God provide you with the strength to endure this tragedy. I will pray for you.

Mark is a cool dude, remember working with him at Circuit City and he would always remind me to take the face off my cd player in my car. Just today I was getting out my car and I heard him say "you left your face on and your doors are unlocked". I'm gonna miss you buddy!!!

we all got together last night, it was like old times, almost.. it just felt like we weren't all there yet like someone was just running late and they would walk through the door at any minute. i miss those times so much. i miss us all piling on the couch and floor watching movies or doing our weekly dinners, i miss our attempts at going out almost every night of the week, i miss you teaching me the proper way to throw darts at the flying saucer. mark you were always there for me, you were a great friend.. you listened to all my problems and gave me a shoulder to cry on when i needed it then when i was done you would smile and have something fun in mind to pick me back up again. you were even there for me after my wreck and held my hand the entire time i was in the emergency room and never left my side. i am forever thankful. i was blessed to have known you, you were an amazing guy.. so thoughtful and kind and always had so much energy. i will miss you mark.

It has been years since I have seen Mark...Sadly, the last time was one weekend that I was home from Chapel Hill during college and here come Mark and Nick in Nick's jeep cruising down Sardis Road...Nick was hanging out of the side of the car smiling and waving and Mark had popped up and was giving this huge two handed wave. Both of them just smiling so big... but what I remember most about him in high school was his incredibly kind heart, sense of humor (oh my gosh he could make me laugh in yearbook), and the confidence he had to be his own person...I can't even begin to count the number of times he almost got in trouble for those shorts/pants that he used to wear in high school but I loved that he kept on wearing them...even though he only had one hand to play ultimate frisbee during lunch because the other was tied up with him trying to keep up those pants! Marks accident truly is such a loss for all of those who had not yet had the opportunity to have Mark touch their life. I feel extremely fortunate to have the memories that I do of Mark and he will be missed.
