Obituary of J. Barker

J. E. Barker Mr. Barker, 89, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at his residence with his family by his side. Mr. Barker was born September 17, 1919 in Claremont, NC, a son of the late Edgar T. Barker and Bessie Hawn Barker. He was a graduate of Balls Creek High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. Mr. Barker worked with A.Z. Price & Associates for 25 years and retired in 1987. He had a loving heart and will be dearly missed by everyone. He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Anthony Barker. The family wishes to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte, especially Brett, Robin and Betty, for their compassionate care given to Mr. Barker. Surviving include his wife, Nancy Louise Meaders Barker of Charlotte; daughters, Mary Ann Turner of Rolesville, NC and Betty Jean Barker of Charlotte; three sons, Paul Barker and Donald Barker of Charlotte and Thomas Barker of Florida; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00pm Thursday evening at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home, 1111 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Friday, August 21, 2009 at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 2400 Balls Creek Road, Claremont, NC, with the Rev. Dr. Joanne Stancil and Rev.
