Obituary of John Foster

John William Foster ?Bill? Mr. Foster, 85, of Charlotte, NC, peacefully passed away at his residence Saturday, September 19, 2009. A Charlotte native, he was a son of the late John Henry Foster and late Eddie Estelle Wilburn Foster. A Naval veteran of WWII, Bill served as an aircraft mechanic aboard the USS Wasp before it was sunk during the battle of Guadalcanal, on September 15, 1942. Bill became an avid tennis player and after retiring from Mill Power Supply, you could find him involved in some special wood-working project, refinishing a piece of furniture, or toiling about the yard keeping his flowers in bloom. Bill loved spending time with his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Jimmie; son John R. Foster and wife, Sue, of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Barbara F. Davis, of Charlotte, NC; sister, Grace Juanita Stallings, of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Henry McElroy ?Mac? Foster, of Monroe, NC and Bobby Moore Foster, of Wilmington, NC; sister, Nancy Ann Abernathy, of Concord, NC; granddaughters, Heather Elaine Foster, of Morganton, NC, Angela Denise Foster, of Morganton, NC and Dana Marie Berkovics, of Mint Hill, NC; grandsons, Dirk Alexander Davis, of Madison, WI and William Randolph Davis, of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Loren Estelle Davis, of Charlotte, NC; great-grandsons, Corbin James Berkovics, Connor Alexander Berkovics, and Seth McKinley Foster; great-granddaughter, Rylie Jo Foster; and great-grandson, Trevor Otto Foster. Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his sisters, Sallie Marie Nelson and Betty Ruth Hardin. Funeral service for Mr. Foster will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
