Obituary of Dimitrios Papageorgiou

Dimitrios ?Jimmy? Papageorgiou Mr. Papageorgiou, 71, of Charlotte died at Carolinas Medical Center on Monday, September 21, 2009. He was born in Skopia, Evritania Greece, August 3, 1938 son of Maria Papageorgiou of Greece and the late George Papageorgiou. Jimmy came to Charlotte in 1977 and was employed with Lance for 22 years. Following his retirement from Lance Jimmy enjoyed fishing and spending his summers in Greece. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. In addition to his father Mr. Papageorgiou was preceded in death by his sister Vasiliki Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Konstantina Papageorgiou; daughters, Maria Spirou and husband, Konstantinos and Vasiliki Kiki Kaloudis and husband, Petros all of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Konstantinos Papageorgiou and wife, Fani, Nikolaos Papageorgiou and wife, Sophia and Eleferios Papageorgiou and wife, Eleni; sisters, Joanna Kanelos and husband, Simon and Evegilia Vastakis all of Greece; five grandchildren Theodosia, Athan, George, Demetri and Nicholas and 16 nieces and nephews. Maria and Kiki would like to thank their family and friends from Everest Grill for all the support during their father?s illness and also to doctors Reza Nazemzadeh and John Martinie and their staffs and all the nurses and staff at Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral service for Mr. Papageorgiou will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with Father Michael Varvarelis, Father Efstathios Varvarelis and Father Tommy Vlahos officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The Trisagion will be Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM, September 22, 2009 at the cathedral. Memorials may be made to Socrates Academy Foundation, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203, where his grandson attends school. May his memory be eternal.
