Obituary of Mary Holton

Mary Elizabeth Simpson Holton Mrs. Holton, 78, of Charlotte, NC, died Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born in Huntersville, NC on November 3, 1930, daughter of the late Solon Crawford Simpson and Janie Jernigan Simpson. Mrs. Holton graduated from Huntersville High School and Burton Jr. Business College. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and a former long-time member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was a member of the Swinging Saints, the Hoppy Note Singers and the St. Andrews Harvesters. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holton was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Holton, Sr. She is survived by her son, C. Lewis Holton, Jr. of Murrells Inlet, SC; three daughters, Diane Hastings and her husband, Tony of Rock Hill, SC, Gayle Webber and her husband, Carl of Marshville, NC, and Donna Roberts of Murrells Inlet, SC; six grandchildren, Tres Holton, Cayce Burwell, Mandy Distefano, Jamie Walker, Alex Glaze and Katie Glaze; six great-grandchildren, Austin Ainsworth, Calvin Holton, Atalana and Anthony Distefano, Evan Burwell and Reagan Holton; brother, Dub Simpson; and several nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Holton will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jack Knoespel officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard. Pallbearers will be Jason Burwell, Tony Distefano, Kurry Freeman, Sheldon Freeman, Bobby Holland, Mike Lambert, Mike Stallings and Justin Walker.
