Obituary of Hilda McCarty

Hilda Alberta Denmon McCarty of Charlotte, NC, passed away at Huntersville Oaks, Huntersville, on October 11, 2009. Hilda Alberta was born on February 1, 1928 in Wilkes Barre, PA. She was the daughter of the late John and Edna Sickler Denmon, Beaumont, PA. She was raised in the Beaumont/Dallas areas of PA and in Uleda, FL when the family travelled there for her Father's work. In high school, Hilda Alberta met the love of her life, Ernie Lester McCarty Sr. They went on to enjoy a wonderful life together leaving a beautiful legacy of love for their children and granddaughter. She raised her family in New Jersey then moved to South Bend, IN for her husband's career. They travelled throughout the US visiting family and friends and particularly enjoyed entertaining their family at home. They retired together in Ocala, FL. Mrs. McCarty moved to Atria-Merriwood,Charlotte, NC in 2000 to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Ginnie and Bill and made many wonderful friends there. Mrs. McCarty worked in a variety of positions but most important to her life were her faith, and caring for family and friends. She had a quiet and supportive manner with a twinkle in her eye but she had a strong character and didn't hesitate to speak up for a cause she thought just. In her earlier years, she enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint and card games but more recently she took great pleasure in jigsaw puzzles and bingo. Mrs. McCarty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Ernest Lester McCarty Sr. She is survived by her children, Ginnie Wiseman and husband Bill of Concord, NC and Ernie McCarty Jr. and wife, Jackie, and granddaughter Candace McCarty, all of Portland, OR; sisters Beverly Dennis and husband, Franklin of Sellersburg, IN, Shirley Zimmerman and husband Don, Beaumont, PA as well as many other relatives and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be remembered for her sweet nature and generous heart. The family wishes to express their thanks and special gratitude to Marge Richardson for her loving and gracious care of their mother for many years, as well as the staff and caregivers at Huntersville Oaks and Hospice and Palliative Care-Lake Norman for their more recent attentive and loving care of their mother. Her funeral service will be 1:30 PM Monday October 19, 2009 in the chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service with Dr. John Earl, of Avondale Presbyterian Church, officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at a later date in Ocala, FL.
