Obituary of Elvas Brown

Elvas Almond Brown Mrs. Brown, 91, of Charlotte, NC went to be with Jesus on November 5, 2009 at Levine & Dixon Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. She was born October 17, 1918 in Stanly County, North Carolina, daughter of the late Terrence and Emma Eudy Almond. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers. She graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 and retired from Wesley Nursing Center in 1981. Mrs. Brown has been a member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte since 1943 and was a member of the Faithful Sunday School Class. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Harvey Brown Sr.; son, Harvey Brown Jr. and his wife, Carla of Charlotte; four daughters, Edith Edney, and husband, Larry of Summerville, SC, Fran Yohman and husband, Ed of Raleigh, NC, Joyce Jolley and husband, Steve of Winston-Salem, NC, and Ruth Brown of Charlotte; nine grandchildren, Richard Edney, Jonathan Edney and his wife, Becca, Megan and Ashley Yohman, Stephanie Jolley Mitchell and her husband, Shaka, Drew Jolly and Emily, Jeremy, and Christina Brown; and a great-grandson, Ben Edney. There will be a memorial service at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at First Baptist Church, 301 South Davidson Street, Charlotte. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. Interment will be private in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
