Obituary of Frederic Voorhees

FREDERIC L. VOORHEES Mr. Voorhees, 73, of Charlotte, formerly of Freehold, New Jersey, passed away peacefully Friday, November 6, 2009 at home following an illness. He was born February 17, 1936 in Rahway, New Jersey, a son of the late Frederic F. Voorhees and May Janet LeMon Voorhees. He was a graduate of Cranford High School and Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, New Jersey, where he lettered in track and field. Mr. Voorhees was a retired Vice President from Citibank in New York City after 32 years of service. His retirement years made an important impact on his life. He enjoyed making wine using a family press; an art that he passed on to other family members. Mr. Voorhees was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and gardening. But most importantly, his life centered around family gatherings and traveling. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Sandra L. Voorhees of Charlotte; two sons, Donald Voorhees and his wife Alisa of Henderson, Nevada. and Daniel Voorhees of Charlotte; two daughters, Debbra Voorhees of Tinton Falls, New Jersey and Susan Shellenberger and her husband Nathaniel of Tega Cay, South Carolina; a brother, Harold Voorhees and his wife Alice of Powderly, Texas; two grandsons, Christopher Voorhees and Ethan Shellenberger; two nephews, Harold ?Chip? Voorhees and Jeffrey Voorhees. A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Voorhees life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009 in the chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd , Charlotte , NC . The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
