Obituary of Dorothy Troxler

Dorothy McClave Troxler Mrs. Troxler, 89, of Charlotte, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 18, 1919 in Grasston, Minnesota, the only daughter of the late Zeno Earnest Grayson and Edith Sarah Cook Grayson. Dorothy was raised in Minnesota and graduated from St. Cloud Teacher's College. She taught school in Minnesota, Roswell, NM, Dayton, OH, Huntington, NY and McLean, VA. In 1942, she married the late Kenneth Alexander McClave, an Army Air Force pilot in World War II and Korea. After many company moves they resided in McLean, VA where Dorothy served on the staff of The National Spelling Bee in Washington DC, worked at the National Foundation Library for The New York Legal Exchange and started her own company, DGM Associates, acting as liaison between several companies and government purchases. To be closer to her grandchildren, Dorothy and Ken moved to Lake Norman in 1978. After Ken's death in 1979, Dorothy moved to Charlotte and met and married the late Therman Joseph TroxIer in 1983. He died in 2002. Mrs. Troxler then moved to The Cypress of Charlotte where she had been a resident since 2003. Dorothy was a long time and active church member wherever she lived. She was involved in music programs, served as Sunday School teacher and Jr. Choir Director. In Charlotte, Mrs. Troxler faithfully attended St. Luke's Lutheran Church, sang in the choir and volunteered at The Drop in Center for the Mentally Ill. Dorothy loved tennis, playing thru her 70's and was an excellent bridge player; enjoying the game and the many friends she met. But her rock and foundation was her special friend, David Flake Reid, who has been her constant and loving companion; such a blessing to Dorothy and her family. We love you David! Dorothy is survived by her son, John Patrick McClave and his wife Susan Schatz McClave of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Kelly Smith and her husband, Ross; Kevin McClave and his wife Lauren and Scott McClave and his wife Tiffinnee all of Charlotte; six great grandchildren, twin girls Ella and Hattie, Cate, Audrey and twin boys Henry and Holt; brother, Willis Arnold Grayson of Corona CA; stepsons, Christopher ?Sandy? Troxler and wife, Brenda and their sons, Jonathon and Nathan Diveney and the Tim Troxler family, all of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Percy B. Grayson and Dale E. Grayson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, November 13 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, with The Reverends Cam Keyser and Stephen Lorimer officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parrish Hall for lunch. A private burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Sherrills Ford, NC. A reception will be held Thursday, November 12 from 4:30 to 6:00 PM at The Cypress of Charlotte. Memorials may be made in Dorothy's memory to St Luke's Lutheran Church at P. O.
