Obituary of Jeanne Lemonds McLean

Jeanne Lemonds McLean ?Nana? Mrs. McLean, 87, of Charlotte died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville. A native of Charlotte, she was born on April 19, 1922 to the late, Eula Mae and Grady Lemonds. Mrs. McLean retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Utility Department after a long career with the city. She had lived for the last seven years at Carmel Place in Charlotte. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McLean was preceded in death by a sister, Becky Weisenberger. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Betty Williams, of Charlotte; her children, daughters, Anita Furr and her husband, Don of Charlotte, Libby Lewallen, and her husband, Rick of Kannapolis, and her son, Oliver McLean and his wife, Amber of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Brian Ross and his wife, Gwen of Charlotte, Andy Tucker of Charlotte, Chad Tucker of Charlotte, and Jay Phillips of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Sophie and Jack Spence of Charlotte; six loving nieces and nephews; and four great nieces and nephews. Mrs. McLean loved living at Carmel Place with her many friends that she has made over the years. She loved playing bingo and belonging to the Red Hat Club, and dining with her friends. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Ms. Martha Moore for the loving care and friendship that she so patiently gave, the staff at Carmel Place for the wonderful care and special attention that she received there and a special thank you to Ms. Sissy Bowers for her loving friendship to our mother. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 17, 2009, in the chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association 222 South Church St. Suite 336M, Charlotte, NC 28202.
