Kenneth Morgan

Obituary of Kenneth Morgan

Mr. Morgan, 62, died peacefully on December 7, 2009 at Brighton Gardens assisted living community in Charlotte, NC, following a brave battle with dementia. Ken was born near Detroit, MI, on November 13, 1947 to the late Dollie and Robert Morgan. With natural talent and a spirit of adventure, Ken pursued sports, music, youth leadership and scholastics before attending college at the University of Illinois. There he met his wife, Chris, to whom he has been married for nearly 40 years. Following graduation, Ken devoted 10 ambitious years to the US Air Force as Captain, serving as T-38 instructor pilot and B-52 aircraft commander. By 1980, the couple had expanded to a family of four with the birth of two daughters, Meredith of Burlington, VT, now aged 34, and Kendra of Seattle, WA, now aged 30, and had resided in several states. The family?s 15 year residence in Shelburne, VT, established the small-town community as the Morgans? hometown. Ken?s lifelong passion for aviation manifested professionally and personally, as he was most in his element flying high over mountain ranges and other scenic landscapes. Until 2007 Ken was employed by General Dynamics as Vice President in Aerospace and Technical Products. Also dear to Ken was his playful and pampered dog Star, lovingly preceded by the late Ginger and Rundie. Ken had a natural musical talent, and enjoyed singing, dancing, and playing music in various contexts until his final days. Ken had a big heart and a great capacity for humor and laughter. He enjoyed a wide range of pleasures from fine arts and cultural events to peanut M&Ms and movies. Ken?s strength, courage, and commitment to service will be mourned by his wife and two daughters (and of course by Star, who will miss licking his ice cream bowl at the end of the day). Ken is also survived by his younger brother Mike, of Bethesda, MD. A service of remembrance will be held at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 7:00 PM.
