Elizabeth Helderman

Obituary of Elizabeth Helderman

Mrs. Helderman, 96, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 10, 2009 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC, surrounded by her loving family. Lib, as she was affectionately called, was born in Salisbury, NC, and grew up in Charlotte; she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mazie Conger. Lib and her ?honey? as she always called her beloved husband of 74 years were secretly married on July 28, 1935, and were still very much in love after all those years, and where you saw one, you saw the other one. If one or the other had a doctor?s appointment, the other one was there, no matter how he or she felt. They were always a role model and an inspiration to others. Lib was a very caring, considerate, compassionate, gentle, kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, neighbor and friend and she had a heart as big as all outdoors. She was blessed with a quick wit and humor, and she never lost those qualities even during the last years of her life when she had severe pain associated with a lot of health problems. Outside of her family and her church, one of her greatest joys was sending cards for birthdays, anniversaries, sympathy, Christmas, birth of a child, etc. to family, friends, and church members. Cards were mailed every month and some months there would be 40 cards or more, and every card contained two sticks of chewing gum. If you even hinted to her that maybe she should cut back or quit sending cards, she became very upset, and would inform you that as long as her honey could buy the stamps she would keep sending out the cards. Lib was a very Godly woman who loved her Church, Glenwood ARP, and the members of her Church, and over the years she missed very few services. To sum it all up, ?to know Lib was to love her?. Lib was preceded in death by a beloved son, Michael Morrison Helderman, and two sisters, Gladys Alexander and Myrtle Wooten, and two brothers, Garland Conger and Eddie Conger. Survivors include her husband, Morrison Swink Helderman; her son, Randolph Franklin Helderman and his wife, Leah Wentz Helderman; grandchildren, Michael Allen, Kim Morton and William Paul Helderman; great grandson, Brayden Morton Helderman; sisters-in-law, Ivie H. Gulledge and Marie Helderman; nieces, Bethany G. Deese, Tiffany G. Hancock, Kandi Hughes, Betty McQuay Tysinger, Leslie Klein, and Kim Magee; nephews, Terry McQuay, Walter Conger and Lynne Clifford. Lib also leaves behind Glenwood ARP Church family and other treasured friends. A service to honor and celebrate Lib?s life will be held at Glenwood ARP Church, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2009, and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Presbyterian Hospital, Huntersville, NC, and the nurses at Levine & Dickson Hospice House for their excellent care and compassion for Lib and her family during this most trying of times. The family would request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Lib?s memory to Glenwood ARP Church, 5024 Freedom Dr., Charlotte, NC 28208, or to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078, or to the charity of their choice.
