Obituary of Evangeline McMahan

Blanche Evangeline McMahan Evangeline McMahan passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday December 16th, 2009 at the age of 64 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 18, 1945 in Cherryville, NC to the late Dr Forest and Blanche Houser. She attended Mt. Vernon School in Washington, DC and University Of North Carolina at Greensboro. She received her Master of Education from UNC Charlotte. Evangeline and Ed McMahan were married on December 19, 1965. Together they had three loving children. Evangeline loved being a mother and created a warm loving home in which to raise her family. She was treasured by her children because she always gave of herself and made them feel special. She was the true model of what a wife and mother should be. She treasured her time with her children and her grandchildren. Evangeline had a long time teaching career where she demonstrated that teaching requires passion and commitment. She taught with wisdom and patience, guided by her unending faith. She was a teacher both in the classroom and outside the classroom. Evangeline also touched so many lives through the strength and courage she displayed in fighting a number of illnesses for over 15 years. Everyone who entered her life always found comfort in her smile. She was courageous and fought her long battle with cancer with grace, dignity and acceptance. No doubt her faith in God guided her through her journey and especially through her final days. Evangeline?s family would like to thank Dr. Jim Hall, Dr. Gary Frenette , Dr. Dan Howard and all the loving staff associated with Carolinas Healthcare System, along with Irma, Delorise and Carma who provided support to the family during the last few weeks. The family would also like to thank the many friends who have supported her and the family with constant prayer, phone calls, emails, visits, meals, and cards. Left to cherish her memory is her loving and devoted husband of forty-four years, Ed McMahan; her daughter Debbie and husband Scott, her son Ed McMahan Jr. and wife Anna, and her daughter Julie.
