Obituary of Phyllis Ognovich

Phyllis Hodgson Ognovich Mrs. Ognovich, 80, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.N. ?Nick? Ognovich, and her parents, Cora and Herman Hodgson, of Statesville. Mrs. Ognovich is survived by her sister, Helen Hodgson Grier, of Statesville; a son, Richard N. Ognovich, Jr., of Charlotte; a daughter, Dee Harrison Ognovich of Louisburg, NC and son-in-law, Jerry Harrison; and three grandchildren, Lindsay O. Harrison, Katie A. Ognovich and Jackie N.Ognovich. A native of Statesville, Mrs. Ognovich attended Mitchell College. She moved to Charlotte in the early 1950s and worked as a receptionist for the Charlotte Mental Health Clinic before marrying Nick Ognovich in 1952. She later did volunteer work at Presbyterian Hospital, where she spent many years warmly greeting patients and their families. ?Mrs. O,? as she was affectionately known, lived to help others. She delivered meals on wheels, volunteered at Charlotte Latin School, and was always eager to help family and friends with her joyous spirit; whatever the task. She loved entertaining, playing bridge and tennis, sunsets at the beach, and her devoted ?lunch bunch? friends. She was a kind, caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose charm will be greatly missed by all. Memorial service will be held 1:30 pm Wednesday January 6 at Trinity Presbyterian Church 3115 Providence Rd. Visitation and reception will follow the service in the church parlor. The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers at The Summit at SouthPark. Memorials may be made to charity of donor's choice.
