Obituary of Charles Armstrong

Charles Stanford Armstrong Mr. Armstrong, 78, of Charlotte died peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2010 at Wilora Lake Health Care Center. A Charlotte native, Mr. Armstrong was born January 11, 1932 son of the late Joseph and Vernie Stanford Armstrong. Charles was a graduate of Queens College and was an active member and ordained elder of Third Presbyterian Church, where he enjoyed serving others. He retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Utility Department with 33 years of service. Charles enjoyed traveling; but his greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren; he particularly enjoyed watching them play sports. Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Nellie Armstrong of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Michelle Hensel and husband, Jeff of Charlotte, NC and Pam Logan and husband, Rod of Morristown, TN; sons, Stan Armstrong and wife, Kathy of Charlotte, NC and John Armstrong and wife, Erin of Matthews, NC; sisters, Ruth Armstrong, Evelyn Mitchum and Martha ?Monk? Berry all of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Alex, Zach, Caite, Tyler, Anders ?AJ?, Brittany and Seth. A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, January 22, 2010 at Third Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Third Presbyterian Church, 4019 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205.
