Obituary of Mary Davis

Mary Bishop Davis Mrs. Davis, 86, of Charlotte died at Mecklenburg Health Care Center Saturday, January 23, 2010. She was born June 19, 1923 in Richburg, SC, daughter of the late William W. and Laura Barnes Bishop. Mary was employed with Barclays Bank for over thirty years. She enjoyed cooking and reading, especially mysteries. But the center of her life was family and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Davis was a member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church over 50 years and was an active member of Sharon Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Earle W. Davis; brothers, Fred, William and Robert Bishop and sisters, Azilee Phillips and Ruby Ray. Survivors include her daughters, Pat Black, Nancy E. Davis and Sandra D. Shanklin and husband Richard; grandchildren, Gary Black, Josh Mullen, Matt Mullen and wife, Jodie, Will Shanklin and Shannon Mullen all of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Haley, Carson, Jackson and Isiah Mullen. Also surviving is Mrs. Davis sister-in-law, Mary Taffer Owensby and husband, Basil of Springfield, TN and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mrs. Davis will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at 3:00 PM at Sharon Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Robert J. Blumer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
