Louis Daignault

Obituary of Louis Daignault

Louis Gilbert Daignault Mr. Daignault, 78, a man of love and integrity to whom family mattered most, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at his home in Charlotte, NC. Holding a Ph.D. in Chemistry, he worked in both academic and industrial settings. For nineteen years at UNC Charlotte and earlier at the Rochester Institute of Technology, he sought to illuminate for his students the connection between classroom chemistry and the everyday world. In industry, even before the popularizing of a ?green? consciousness, Mr. Daignault?s work led to innovations in the purification of waste water from commercial photo development. The son of the late Louis J. Daignault and the late Marian A. Daignault, Mr. Daignault spent his youth in Spencerport, NY. He received his baccalaureate degree from Clarkson College and his doctorate from the University of Rochester. Upon completing his education, Mr. Daignault served in the Army Reserves. A farmer at heart, Mr. Daignault balanced his early professional life with owning and working a hundred-acre farm in upstate New York. After relocating to the south, he channeled this energy into bountiful gardens. In addition to singing and playing saxophone and clarinet in church music programs and community bands, Mr. Daignault?s pastimes included woodworking and boating. Mr. Daignault is survived by his loving wife, Doris; his devoted sons and their wives, David and Kathy, Jeff and Vickie; and his most-adored grandsons, Brennan and Spencer. He is also survived by his brother and sister, David Daignault and Nancy Gardner; in-laws, Ruth and Warren Smith and Marjorie Carvalho; nieces, nephews, and many long-time, dear friends. Visitation for Mr. Daignault will be on February 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at Hankins & Whittington (1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC) with a service honoring Mr. Daignault?s deep and animating faith immediately following at 7:30 p.m. in the Hankins & Whittington Chapel.
