Belinda Ward

Obituary of Belinda Ward

Belinda Carr Ward Mrs. Ward, 59, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010, after a four month battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family at Presbyterian Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC. Belinda was born in Princeton, WV, on June 3, 1950, to Edith Dodd and W. Robert Carr. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1968 and a proud graduate of West Virginia University, where she was an active sorority member of Chi Omega Fraternity. Belinda was married to Robert J. Ward, Jr., on June 10, 1972. Belinda loved working with children. She was always extremely grateful to Sylvia Eagle, a well respected pioneer in early childhood education in Charlotte, for giving her a start in her career in daycare. Working for Mrs. Eagle was one of the greatest joys in Belinda?s life. Belinda started her career in daycare for Mrs. Eagle?s Charlotte Academy Kiddie Korner Day Schools in 1985. For the last 25 years, Belinda poured her heart and soul into influencing the lives of the children at her schools. It was her life?s mission, and she was happiest when surrounded by ?her kids.? She always put the interest of her ?children? before all others. She considered her staff at Childcare Network (school 97) her second family and loved them as much as they loved her. Belinda?s love of children was surpassed only by her love of her Saviour, Jesus Christ, and that of her family. She faithfully attended Central Church of God. Belinda?s strong faith in God sustained her during her difficult battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by two of her favorite people: her father, W. Robert Carr, and her grandmother, Nora Dodd Elmore. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Ward, Jr., of Charlotte, NC (originally of Morgantown, WV); mother, Edith Dodd Carr, of Princeton, WV; sisters, Katherine Carr Kuntz of Dunwoody, GA, and Pamela Carr Payne of Morristown, NJ; daughters, Angela Ward Lovelace of Greenville, SC, and Paige Ward Hoffman of Red House, WV; grandchildren, Benjamin Sydnor Lovelace, IV (?Jaxson?) (5), Madison Ward Lovelace (3), Mackenzie Carr Lovelace (1), Zoey Gaynell Hoffman (3), and Grace Ellen Hoffman (3); brothers-in-law, Ned Kuntz and Ted Payne; and sons-in-law, Ben (?Tres?) Lovelace and Travis Hoffman.
