Obituary of Gus Pistolis

Gus Athanasios Pistolis Mr. Pistolis, 88, of Charlotte, NC died at his residence on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Gus was born December 8, 1921, the fourth of six children born to Athanasios and Georgia Keretsis Pistolis in Fidakia, Evrytania, Greece. Mr. Pistolis came to the United States in 1969 to make a better life for his family. He was employed with Lance for 20 years until his retirement and was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Gus enjoyed gardening and Greek folk music, but spending time with family was first and foremost in his life. In addition to his parents Mr. Pistolis was preceded in death by his brothers, Sam and John Pistolis. Survivors include his sons, Tom Pistolis and wife, Georgia of Greenville, SC and Dennis Pistolis and wife, Lauri of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Stavros and Giorgio Pistolis of Athens Greece; sister, Helen Keretsis of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Christianna and Candace Pistolis and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mr. Pistolis will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 11:30 AM with Father Michael Varvarelis, Father Efstathios Varvarelis and Father Tom Pistolis officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The Trisagion will be held Thursday evening at the Cathedral at 7:00 PM.
