Obituary of James Karnazes

James Demitri Karnazes Mr. Karnazes, 77, of Charlotte, NC died at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC on Thursday, April 22, 2010. A native of Charlotte, NC, James was born February 10, 1933 son of the late David and Katherine Gheen Karnazes He attended Harding High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Following his service to his country Mr. Karnazes was employed in the family winery until his retirement. James was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and enjoyed fishing, Ping Pong, baseball and all sports. He also enjoyed walking. In addition to his parents Mr. Karnazes was preceded in death by a brother, John D. Karnazes and sister, Marian Wike. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Alease Karnazes of Charlotte, NC; nieces and nephews, DJ Karnazes and wife, Tammy of Mint Hill, NC, David Wike and wife, Connie of Matthews, Rebecca Carter and husband, Madison of Greenville, SC and Christine Hondros and husband, Pete of Matthews, NC and 21 grand nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mr. Karnazes will be held Monday, April 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
