Obituary of Willie Gathings

Willie D. Gathings Mrs. Gathings, 88, formerly of Charlotte, passed away at her home in Fayetteville with her family by her side. She was born in Polkton, NC on January 19, 1922, daughter of the late Burgess Edward and Nora Edna DeWeese. She moved to Charlotte in 1954. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Gathings and her sister, Evelyn Gwendolyn Hall. Mrs. Gathings is survived by her sons, Thomas D. Gathings and his wife, Cheryl and David W. Gathings and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Todd Gathings and wife Julie, Patrick Gathings and wife, Heather, Thomas Jeffrey Gathings and wife, Amy, Catherine H. Gathings-Navarro and huband, Sandro, David S. Gathings and wife, Sarah, and Chad A. Gathings and wife,Katarzyna; 6 great-grandchildren; and sisters Ella Frances Thurston and Laura Jane Senter. Funeral service will be at 12:00, Friday, May 7, 2010 at the graveside in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203.
