Obituary of Phillip Bryan

Phillip Bryan Mr. Bryan, 73, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010, at his home in China Grove, NC. Phil was born in Valdese, NC, May 18, 1936, the second son of David Lee Bryan Sr. and Mary Stamey Bryan. The family moved to Charlotte, NC in 1943, where Phil graduated from East Mecklenburg High School and served as a school bus driver. After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force and two years in the Air Force Reserves, he became a dispatcher for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in 1962 and retired from the Department. in 1989. Since his retirement, he has lived in Tampa, FI. and Colorado Springs, Co., before returning to North Carolina in 2001. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed his vegetable garden, plants, and trees. In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his older brother, Clyde Lee Bryan. Surviving are his wife, Carol Bryan, sons, Tim Bryan of Monroe, NC and Stephen Bryan of Durham, NC and three step-children, sister, Virginia Bryan of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Bob Bryan of Wilmington, NC and Gene and David "DL" Bryan of Charlotte, NC; grandsons, Wesley and Robbie Bryan, and several nieces & nephews. Funeral service for Mr. Bryan will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 17, 2010 in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon May 16, 2010 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Interment will be in the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC, at a later date.
