Obituary of Neal Szatmary

NEAL WILLIAM SZATMARY Neal W. Szatmary, 69, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Dallas, TX died on Sunday, May 16, 2010. Neal was born in Boston, MA, son of the late Albert and Etta Smith Szatmary. Mr. Szatmary attended the University of Buffalo and was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi. He spent his career in corporate retail. Neal and his wife Judy moved to Charlotte in 2001 and became active and vibrant members of the Jewish community. He was a member of Temple Beth El, where Neal was active with both the Brotherhood and S.P.I.C.E. , a senior group at the Temple. He will be remembered best for his volunteer work with Temple Beth El. Neal was the first face to greet people as they came through the door. He was always present with his friendly and welcoming voice, answering the phones for Temple Beth El. Mr. Szatmary was an avid football fan who loved the Dallas Cowboys. He was also a big history buff and an ardent animal lover who particularly favored dogs. Neal is survived by his wife Judy Trapanick Szatmary; his daughter, Heather R. Szatmary of Savannah, GA; his son, Ethan B. Szatmary of Dallas, TX; his brother, Armin and his wife Marilyn Szatmary of Los Angeles, CA; his brother in law, Bill Trapanick and his partner, Terrie Hobson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 11:30AM in the Sam Lerner Center of the Jewish Community Center, Shalom Park, 5007 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. Memorials may be made to The Rabbi?s Discretionary Fund or The S.P.I.C.E. Group at Temple Beth El, 5101 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.
