Obituary of Robert McAvoy

Robert G. McAvoy, Mr. McAvoy died May 28, 2010. Robert (Bob) was born on June 24, 1939 in Cambridge, MA, to Dorothy and Albert McAvoy. Bob grew up in Belmont, MA and graduated from Belmont High School, Class of 1957. Upon completion of high school, Bob entered the United States Marine Corps for two years, where he was stationed at Camp Jejune. He was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal in 1959 and then earned a degree in social work from Emerson College in Cambridge, MA. He later worked for many years as a social worker for hospitals in the New England area. Bob married and was the father of 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Upon his retirement, Bob moved to North Carolina, where he maintained an active membership in the Marine Corps Veterans Association. He will be missed by his family and his many friends at the Latta Condos, in Charlotte, where he lived at the time of his death. His family held a private memorial service.
