Cecille Rosenbaum

Obituary of Cecille Rosenbaum

Cecille Luella Rosenbaum Ms. Rosenbaum, 95, died on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital. Cecille, born on August 14, 1914, in Wytheville, VA, was devoted to her family and friends. After graduating high school at sixteen years of age, she went to work to support her mother and siblings after her father passed. She lived with her sister, Loretta, for over 50 years; and Ceil adored and treasured her sister. She and Loretta took up competitive ballroom dancing, winning many trophies, they took trips together, and they enjoyed planting different annuals around their beautiful home. Cecille retired from US Textiles as a senior accountant. She was meticulous with her notes and computations, and kept a regular journal throughout her life. Her work ethic extended to her personal life, too, as she mowed her own lawn until about three years ago. Her friend Millie said, ?A weed never stood in that yard.? Ceil never knew a stranger, and she drew strength by her genuine interest in everyone?s story. She could often be heard telling absorbing, enchanting, but true stories about herself or asking detailed, perhaps delicate questions of others. She found no subject impervious to her inquiry; but her sincerity and consideration for people was commendable. Her kindness and generosity extends to multiple charities throughout the area. Cecille is survived by one cousin Frances Moore of Wytheville, VA; her dear friend of 66 years, Millie Carnes of Columbia, SC; and her adopted families of Eric Hallman and wife Elizabeth Woodman of Hillsborough, NC, and Lee Hallman, wife Amy, and son Colby of Huntersville, NC. She is also survived by special friends Al and Keely Tase, Sarah Ingle, Gail and Dick Roth, and Virginia and Ernest Schumacher all of Charlotte, NC; and Jan Coley of Matthews, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents Jefferson Lee Rosenbaum and Pearl Josephine Hounshell Rosenbaum; her brothers Carl Steele Rosenbaum, Garnett Lee Rosenbaum, and James Edward Rosenbaum; and her sister Loretta Pearl Rosenbaum Crowgey. The visitation at 10:00 AM and memorial service following at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Hankins Whittington Funeral Home in Charlotte, NC. Private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cecille?s memory may be made to McCreesh Place, 2120 N. Davidson St., Charlotte, NC 28025, or Crisis Assistance Ministry, 500 Spratt St., Charlotte, NC 28206.
