Obituary of Roland Dunbar

Roland ?Pete? Robert Dunbar, age 85, passed away at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC on July 16, 2010. Pete was born on February 17, 1925 in Allentown, PA to the late Robert Dallas Dunbar and Bertha (Sell) Dunbar. Pete served in the US Navy during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters and was most proud of his service on the Destroyer USS La Vallette. He was a post commander of the AMVETS and a member of the VFW. He retired from ADT Co. in Allentown, PA where he worked for over 40 years as an Installer and Service Manager of security systems. Pete married his high school sweetheart Alverta Mae Kern on August 16, 1945. They moved to Inverness, FL in 1988 and enjoyed their retirement years making new friends and being active with the Regency Park Homeowners Assoc. After the death of Alverta in 2004, Pete remained in Inverness until 2009 when he moved to Sunrise on Providence in Charlotte, NC to be closer to his children. Pete is survived by his sister Betty Meckley of Emmaus, PA and sons Robert (Sandra) Dunbar of Charlotte, NC and Peter (Susan) Dunbar of Hockessin, DE. He leaves a legacy of 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in Charlotte, NC and internment will be at the Florida National Veterans Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 1420 East Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204.
