Obituary of Mildred Zier

Mildred Shirley Zier Mrs. Zier, a resident of the Carriage Club of Charlotte, passed away on July 20, 2010. She was born on February 1, 1926 in Joliet, Illinois, the daughter of the late Louis J. Lewis and Rochelle Wolf Lewis. Mildred enjoyed her career in Human Resources at Fermi Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois where she worked for 20 years. Everyone who worked there knew ?Millie? and appreciated her warm smile and friendly personality. After her retirement Mildred moved to Charlotte and easily made new friends while pursuing various hobbies including painting, sewing, playing golf, and exercising with her friends at the Harris YMCA. Mildred's greatest joy was spending time with her two grandsons. ?Nana? rarely missed an opportunity to cheer for their teams or attend a graduation or birthday party. Mildred was preceded in death by her first husband of 23 years, William Charles Meyer and her husband of 21 years, George James Zier. She is survived by her daughter Rochelle and son-in¬-law Wayne Kelley of Charlotte, NC; grandsons, Michael Kelley of Charlotte, NC and Matthew Kelley and his wife, Melissa MacBride of New York, NY; great grandson, Logan Kelley of Charlotte, NC. Mildred was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We will miss her loving touch, quick wit and zest for life. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Pat McMackin and her staff at the Arbors building at the Carriage Club for the compassionate and loving care they provided Mildred over the last few years. Funeral service for Mrs. Zier will be held 12:30 PM, Friday, July 23, 2010 in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
