Obituary of Sarah Pharr

Sarah Ann Rasberry Pharr Sarah Pharr, daughter of Samuel B. and Thelma F. Rasberry, passed away on July 23, 2010 in her residence at Sharon Towers with her family by her side. Born on November 2, 1929 in Durham, NC, she attended St. Mary's College in Raleigh before moving to Charlotte. At age 41, she entered the business world and retired at 60. Sarah was an avid bird-watcher, reader and gardener and an accomplished bridge-player. She traveled extensively and particularly loved Alaska, Ireland and France. Of all the places she visited, Topsail Beach was her favorite. Time spent searching for shells, watching sunsets and relaxing with her family and friends was precious to her. Sarah's pets provided a great source of comfort, companionship and love. Because of her devotion to animals, several of her volunteer activities included local animal organizations. Sarah's incredible strength of character and fierce independence were admired by many. She was truly a steel magnolia. She is dearly missed by her three grateful children Debbie Culpepper of Charlotte, Frank Pharr and wife Teresa of Hampstead and Ann Harrawood of Chapel Hill; her devoted brother John Rasberry, wife Betsy and family; her eight loving grandchildren Sarah Culpepper, Michael Culpepper, Cameron Rudisill and husband Jason, Brandie Pharr, Mary Pharr, Scott Pharr, Emily Harrawood, and Kathryn Harrawood; her precious great-¬grandchildren Aiden and Ava Rudisill; and her adoring cat Malachi. Visitation will be held Thursday July 29, 2010, from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Sharon Towers. Her life will be celebrated and memorialized on Friday July 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Her family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to her many friends, neighbors and caregivers for the thoughtful attention they extended to Sarah. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to The Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203, Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204 or Sharon Towers Assistance Fund, 5100 Sharon Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210.
