Obituary of Frances Walker

Frances Ellen Medlin Walker Mrs. Walker, 100, of Charlotte, NC died Friday, August 6, 2010 at Asbury Care Center. She was born in Charlotte, NC on December 25, 1909 to William Arthur Medlin and Mary Belle Foil Medlin. She attended the public schools in Charlotte and graduated from Agnes Scott College. While she was at Agnes Scott she met her future husband, the late Dr. Bernard Newman Walker who was attending Emory Dental School. Frances taught for several years at First Ward Elementary School in Charlotte. Frances and Bernard married in 1930 and became members of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and Myers Park Country Club. She was a charter member of the Charlotte Dental Auxiliary and loved to read and play bridge. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Edward Medlin. Mrs. Walker is survived by her daughters, Frances Walker Puckett of Charlotte, NC and Mary Lou Greenway and her husband, Dennis of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Dennis Cleveland Greenway, II and Sarah Greenway May; and one great-grandchild, Dennis Greenway, III. There will be graveside service at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery with the Reverend Gary Hudson officiating. The family of Mrs. Walker would like to offer a special note of appreciation to the caregivers at Southminster and Asbury Care Center for their loving care of their mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
