Obituary of Claude Burns

Claud Wilson Burns ?Tom?, passed away peacefully, on Thursday August 26, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center. Tom was born on February 22, 1924 in Ethel, Mississippi. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and fought in the Pacific Theater, receiving a purple heart. Upon retirement from the Marines, Tom began several second careers, most notably as a furniture maker and home renovator. He lived in Jacksonville, NC with his beloved wife, Elizabeth ?Betty?. After Betty passed away in 2006, Tom moved to Charlotte to be closer to his daughter and family. He was a resident at Atria Merrywood and enjoyed his time there with good friends. He is survived by his daughter Christine Burns-Fazzi, and her husband, Lee Fazzi; and grandchildren Michael and Maria, all of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by sisters, Ila Wasson of Columbia, TN and Patsy Brown of Ogden, UT; and sister-in-law Sue Burns of Kosciusko, MS. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203. Graveside funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, August 30, 2010 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, NC. In lieu flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
