Obituary of Jennie Percy

Jennie Augusta Branin Percy Mrs. Percy, 90, of Charlotte, died on September 6, 2010 at Southminster. She was born on May 9, 1920 in Millville, NJ, daughter of the late Wilmer and Lena Viole Branin. Mrs. Percy was a resident of Millville for 83 years until moving to Charlotte to be with her daughter. She married Russell Ennis Percy in September, 1947. They were married for 60 years until his death in 2006. Mrs. Percy graduated from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her degree in Nursing in 1942. She then worked as a Registered Nurse at that hospital in various assignments before returning to Millville as an Industrial Nurse for Armstrong Cork Co. Her career included private duty nursing, nurse for Labor and Delivery at Newcomb Hospital, nurse and then Executive Director for the Cumberland County TB and Health Association; Director of Nurses for Rainbow Convalescent Center and a Utilization Review Nurse for Prudential Life Insurance Company of America from which she retired. She volunteered with the American Red Cross and the Millville Hospital Auxilliary after retiring. Mrs. Percy was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Millville, NJ; the Millville Women?s Club; and Shekinah Chapter # 82 of the Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey. She loved to travel, was an avid golf player, and adored roses. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Percy Gillespie, her son-in-law, Edward, and a sister, Betty Branin Hendrickson. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church on Maurice River, 119 North 2nd Street, Millville, NJ 08332-6511 with the Reverend John Nurnberger, officiating. A memorial service for Mrs. Percy at Southminster in Charlotte will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church on Maurice River, 119 North 2nd Street, Millville, NJ 08332-6511, or to Southminster Foundation, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210
