Obituary of Evanthia Liakakos

Evanthia Liakakos Evanthia Liakakos passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 15, 2010 after a six week bout with liver cancer. Evanthia was born February 17, 1939 in Athens, Greece and raised in the small sea side village of Leimona, Skalas, Laconia, Greece. She met her husband George in California, where they were married on September 16, 1967. They moved back to Greece in 1978, where they re-connected with friends and family and raised their two children, Stavros and Olga-Maria. Evanthia was a very loving mother, an exceptionally devoted wife, a supportive sister and a proud grandmother. Evanthia and her husband George had a great life together, and recently relocated to Charlotte from Greece to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She leaves behind her husband George, her brother Vasilios, her son Stavros, her daughter Olga-Maria Karagounis, her daughter in law Holly Liakakos, son in law John Karagounis, her grandson George, granddaughters, Mia, Zoe, and Eva; as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Evanthia was well known for her kindness and generosity; she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family will receive friends at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 600 East Blvd. Friday, September 17, 2010 at 10:30 with the Trisagion and funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Lake Norman, 705 Griffth Street Davidson, NC 28036, in memory of Evanthia Liakakos.
